The Maranges appellation, classified as AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) since 1988, is located at the southern end of the Burgundy region, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune vineyards. Comprising the communes of Cheilly-lès-Maranges, Dezize-lès-Maranges, and Sampigny-lès-Maranges, this appellation covers about 170 hectares of vineyards, with a production predominantly of red wines made from Pinot Noir, and a small portion of white wines based on Chardonnay.
Maranges red wines are distinguished by their deep ruby color and fruity aromas of cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant, often enhanced by spicy and floral notes. On the palate, they reveal an elegant structure with well-present yet silky tannins, offering an aging potential of 5 to 10 years. The less common white wines are appreciated for their freshness and delicate aromas of citrus and white flowers.
For wine enthusiasts and cellar managers, Maranges is an appellation to discover and watch closely, both for the quality of its wines and their exceptional value for money. Including Maranges wines in a wine cellar can enrich any Burgundy wine collection, offering treasures that will delight even the most discerning palates.
