Wines Saint-Julien Château Léoville Las Cases - Saint-Julien (Grand Cru Classé) - 1996

Yet another old Bordeaux at the top of its game! I bought this wine at auction, despite the heavily damaged label, and feared the worst. Beautiful color for its age (30 years), very pronounced fruit aromas centered on plum, raspberry, and blackberry, accompanied by oak and iron. The tertiary notes are present too, with leather and mushroom, but without being overpowering. On the palate, even though it’s just a touch less expressive and complex than the nose, it’s still wonderfully balanced. A real pleasure!
