Bel Colle Barolo DOC Cuvée 10 Anni Riserva 2013 is a remarkable example of Nebbiolo at its most sophisticated. Sourced from a blend of select vineyards in the heart of Barolo, this wine showcases the unique qualities of a decade-old Riserva. The 2013 vintage was characterized by a long, cool growing season, allowing the Nebbiolo grapes to ripen slowly and develop deep aromas and complex tannins. Vinification follows traditional methods, with extended maceration and aging in large oak casks, lending structure and elegance while preserving the wine’s finesse. The result is a deep garnet-hued red, boasting a bouquet of dried roses, truffle, licorice, tobacco, and subtle spices, all underpinned by mature, silky tannins and a lingering, earthy finish.
Barolo hails from the Langhe hills of Piedmont, in northwestern Italy—a region revered for its fog-shrouded slopes, marl and clay soils, and centuries-old winegrowing traditions. The microclimate here is instrumental in Nebbiolo’s slow maturation, with cool nights and warm days fostering the grape’s famed aromatic intensity and firm structure. Barolo has long been called “the king of wines and the wine of kings,” thanks to its historical importance and aging potential.
Given its remarkable depth and maturity, this wine is wonderfully suited to hearty, flavorful dishes. Classic pairings include braised beef, osso buco, or traditional Piedmontese dishes such as brasato al Barolo or agnolotti del plin in a truffle or sage butter sauce. Mushroom risotto and aged cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano or Castelmagno are also excellent accompaniments.
For optimal appreciation, decant the wine an hour before serving to let it fully express its bouquet and soften the tannins. Serve at 17-18°C to highlight both its aromatic complexity and refined palate. This Barolo is drinking beautifully now but can also be cellared for several more years to further develop its tertiary notes.
