Lupo di Tinacci "Cuvée Nostravita" 2015 is an exceptional Brunello di Montalcino DOC, crafted entirely from Sangiovese, locally referred to as Sangiovese Grosso. The 2015 vintage is celebrated for its outstanding balance, as the year featured ideal growing conditions: a mild spring, a hot but not extreme summer, and a temperate, dry harvest season that allowed the grapes to achieve perfect maturity. The terroir of Montalcino is distinctive, with its combination of galestro (a crumbly marl), clay, and limestone soils, combined with altitudes ranging from 250 to 500 meters, imparting both structure and aromatic finesse to the wines. After careful hand-harvesting, fermentation typically occurs in stainless steel tanks, followed by extended aging—traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks—for at least four years, bringing complexity, ripe fruit, and integrated tannins.
Tuscany, and more specifically Montalcino, enjoys a warm, Mediterranean climate, cooled by winds from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The region's soils are renowned for their mineral content, favoring the deep-rooted Sangiovese vines and endowing Brunello with its longevity and unique aromatic spectrum. Montalcino has a rich viticultural history dating back to the Middle Ages but gained international acclaim in the late 20th century due to the meticulous standards behind the Brunello DOCG. The strict production rules ensure each bottle is an expression of both heritage and terroir, with the 2015 vintage likely offering depth, ripe cherry and plum, spices, forest floor notes, and polished tannins.
Pair this wine with robust, flavorful dishes. Traditional Tuscan fare such as pappardelle al cinghiale (wild boar pasta), bistecca alla Fiorentina, aged pecorino cheese, or a classic osso buco all complement its richness and bright acidity. The wine’s structure also works beautifully with braised beef or lamb shank.
For optimal enjoyment, decant the wine at least one hour before serving to allow its aromas to open fully. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C. This Brunello is already expressive but will further evolve with a few more years in the cellar if desired.
