Domaine Faiveley’s Marsannay Rouge 2022 is a fine expression of Pinot Noir from one of the northernmost appellations of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. The 2022 vintage in Burgundy was characterised by favourable weather with balanced ripening, resulting in wines that display both freshness and concentration. Marsannay reds are often appreciated for their aromatic profile, with notes of red fruits such as cherry, raspberry, and strawberry, accompanied by subtle floral and earthy nuances. Domaine Faiveley is renowned for its meticulous vineyard management and gentle vinification, utilising selective harvesting and careful extraction to preserve the finesse and vivacity of the Pinot Noir grape.
Marsannay, sometimes called the "Gateway to the Côte de Nuits", is the only appellation in Burgundy where red, white, and rosé wines can all be produced. The terroir is marked by limestone-rich soils with varying degrees of clay, contributing to the wines’ lively minerality and graceful structure. The region benefits from a semi-continental climate, with warm summers and cold winters – perfect for cultivating Pinot Noir of poise and aromatic purity. While the area's winemaking history dates back to the Middle Ages, Marsannay has gained increasing prestige in recent decades for its wines' expressiveness and ageing potential.
This Marsannay Rouge will shine alongside traditional Burgundian dishes such as coq au vin or boeuf bourguignon, where the wine’s vibrant acidity and fine tannins lift the richness of slow-cooked meats. Alternatively, it pairs beautifully with roast duck, sautéed wild mushrooms, or a platter of charcuterie. Local cheeses such as Epoisses or Brillat-Savarin also make excellent companions, highlighting the wine’s subtle earthy undertones.
For optimal enjoyment, serve this wine at a temperature of 16-17°C. Decanting young Marsannay for about thirty minutes before serving allows its aromatic complexity to open fully. Enjoy its youthful charm now, or allow a few years of cellaring to see greater nuance and mellowed tannins emerge.
