The grape variety Graševina

Graševina, internationally known as Welschriesling, is a white grape variety that holds a prominent place in Central and Eastern European viticulture, most notably in Croatia, Hungary, and Slovakia. This grape produces wines with a fresh and inviting character, featuring a bright aromatic profile of green apple, citrus zest, white peach, and subtle floral nuances. On the palate, Graševina wines are typically light to medium-bodied, with crisp acidity and a clean, mineral-driven finish that showcases flavors of fresh pear, lemon, and delicate herbal notes.

The primary wine regions for Graševina are the Slavonia and Croatian Danube areas in Croatia, the Tokaj and Balaton regions in Hungary, as well as Southern Moravia in the Czech Republic and several areas in Austria and Slovakia. Graševina is vinified in a variety of styles, from youthful, dry and vibrant table wines to richer, late-harvest and even noble rot expressions that display honeyed complexity.

Graševina’s bright acidity and elegant freshness make it an excellent partner for a range of dishes, including freshwater fish, shellfish, light poultry, vegetable risottos, and creamy cheeses.
