The grape variety Kabar

Kabar is a distinctive Hungarian white grape variety primarily cultivated in the renowned Tokaj wine region. Developed as a cross between Hárslevelű and Bouvier, Kabar offers a unique sensory experience, marked by aromatic intensity and vibrancy. The grape’s aromatic profile typically features ripe stone fruits such as peach and apricot, intertwined with floral notes and hints of honey. On the palate, Kabar delivers a rounded, medium body with refreshing acidity, often complemented by subtle spiciness and minerality.

Kabar is mainly grown in Hungary’s Tokaj Hills, where the volcanic soils and unique microclimate support the development of both dry and sweet wine styles. While it is often blended in classic Tokaji Aszú and late harvest wines, producers are increasingly crafting varietal Kabar wines, which showcase clarity, richness, and aromatic finesse.

Typical wine styles range from lusciously sweet botrytized wines to vibrant dry whites, all marked by their expressive fruit character and balanced structure.
