The grape variety Liatiko

Liatiko is an ancient Greek grape variety predominantly grown on the island of Crete, particularly in the regions around Heraklion and Lassithi. Renowned for its versatility, Liatiko produces wines with a medium ruby hue and pronounced aromatic intensity. The nose reveals notes of ripe red fruits such as strawberry and cherry, complemented by dried fig, sweet spices, and subtle herbal undertones. On the palate, Liatiko offers a harmonious balance between soft tannins and refreshing acidity, often presenting flavors of sun-dried fruits, cinnamon, and a touch of earthiness.

Typical wine styles range from vibrant, fruit-driven reds to complex, aged wines, as well as luscious dessert wines crafted from sun-dried grapes, most notably in the renowned PDO Dafnes and Malvasia dessert wines.
