The grape variety Scheurebe

Scheurebe is a distinctive German grape variety, renowned for producing aromatic white wines with a unique and expressive character. On the nose, Scheurebe typically displays an intriguing bouquet of blackcurrant, ripe grapefruit, and passion fruit, often accompanied by delicate notes of herbs and elderflower. The palate is lively and fresh, offering a harmonious balance between juicy, concentrated fruit flavours and vibrant acidity. Depending on vinification, Scheurebe wines may exhibit subtle mineral undertones and a lingering, zesty finish.

This grape is primarily cultivated in Germany, especially in the wine-growing regions of Rheinhessen and the Pfalz. Scheurebe is also found in limited plantings in Austria, where it is often referred to as Sämling 88. The variety excels in a range of styles—from racy, bone-dry whites that highlight its aromatic purity, to lusciously sweet, late-harvest and botrytised wines celebrated for their depth and complexity.

Scheurebe pairs exceptionally well with aromatic and spicy cuisine, such as Thai or Vietnamese dishes, as well as with tangy goat cheese, seafood, and lightly spiced poultry. Its sweeter expressions perfectly complement apple desserts, citrus tarts, and blue cheese.
