The grape variety Tai

Tai, also known as Friulano in Italy’s Friuli-Venezia Giulia, is a white grape variety prized for its expressive aromatics and versatility. Wines made from Tai often exhibit a fragrant bouquet of white flowers, almond, green apple, and subtle herbal tones, occasionally layered with hints of pear and citrus. The palate typically mirrors these aromas, accompanied by crisp acidity, medium body, and a refreshing, slightly bitter almond finish that adds complexity.

Tai is predominantly cultivated in northeastern Italy, particularly in the Veneto region, where it is traditionally labeled as Tai, and in Friuli where it is referred to as Friulano. The Colli Euganei and Lison-Pramaggiore DOCs are notable sources for this varietal.

Winemakers craft Tai into both varietal wines and blends, frequently opting for stainless steel fermentation to preserve its fresh character. Styles range from light and vibrant to richer, more textured expressions, depending on yield and vinification.

Tai pairs exceptionally well with prosciutto, seafood risottos, vegetable-based dishes, and mild cheeses. Its lively acidity and nuanced flavors make it an ideal partner for appetizers and light main courses, ensuring a harmonious dining experience.
