The grape variety Glera

Glera is a white grape variety best known as the principal grape in Italy’s celebrated Prosecco wines. This varietal is prized for its fresh, delicate aromatic profile, showcasing lively notes of green apple, pear, white peach, and subtle hints of acacia blossom and citrus zest. On the palate, Glera wines are typically light-bodied with a vibrant, refreshing acidity and a gentle mousse in sparkling versions, contributing to an overall crisp and approachable style.

The primary viticultural home of Glera is the Veneto region, particularly in the hilly areas of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, as well as the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. These zones benefit from ideal microclimates for retaining the grape’s natural acidity and aromatic character.
