The grape variety Gouveio

Gouveio, also known as Verdelho in some regions, is a distinguished white grape variety from Portugal, particularly revered in the Douro and Dão wine regions. It is prized for its bright, aromatic profile characterized by notes of fresh citrus—lemon, grapefruit—as well as green apple, pear, and subtle floral nuances. Hints of stone fruit and delicate minerality often complement the bouquet, while a refreshing acidity lends vibrancy and structure to the palate. Gouveio typically produces medium- to full-bodied wines, offering a harmonious balance between fruit concentration and lively freshness.

The grape is prominent in blends for the famed white wines of Douro DOC, as well as in crisp, expressive still wines.
