Hondarribi Zuri is a unique white grape variety indigenous to the Basque Country in northern Spain. Renowned for its vibrant aromatic profile, it offers delicate notes of green apple, pear, citrus, and subtle floral hints, often complemented by a distinct salty minerality characteristic of its coastal vineyards. On the palate, Hondarribi Zuri wines are typically light-bodied and zesty, with pronounced acidity and a crisp, refreshing finish that heightens their purity and precision.
This grape is primarily cultivated in the DO Getariako Txakolina, as well as in the neighboring regions of Bizkaiko Txakolina and Arabako Txakolina. These maritime climates contribute to the grape’s pronounced freshness and saline edge.
Hondarribi Zuri is most famously used to produce Txakoli, a slightly effervescent, dry white wine celebrated for its lively character and subtle spritz. The wines are typically unoaked, allowing the grape’s natural aromas and structure to shine.
Ideal food pairings involve dishes that highlight the region’s seafood heritage, such as grilled sardines, oysters, clams, and anchovies. Hondarribi Zuri also complements fresh cheeses, light salads, and delicate Asian cuisine, making it a versatile choice for a range of culinary experiences.
