Loureira Blanca is an indigenous white grape variety predominantly cultivated in the northwest of Spain, especially in the Rías Baixas DO of Galicia and, to a lesser extent, in northern Portugal’s Vinho Verde region. Renowned for its expressive and aromatic profile, Loureira Blanca offers elegant floral aromas of laurel (bay leaf), orange blossom, and honeysuckle, complemented by citrus notes of lime and grapefruit as well as delicate hints of green apple and fresh herbs.
On the palate, Loureira-based wines are typically light to medium-bodied with vibrant acidity, delivering a refreshing and lively character. These wines can show a fine mineral undertone and a lingering, slightly saline finish.
While often crafted as a single-varietal wine, Loureira Blanca frequently appears in blends, notably with Albariño and Treixadura, enhancing aromatic complexity and freshness. Typical styles include fresh, youthful whites meant to be enjoyed young, though some premium examples may benefit from short-term aging.
Loureira Blanca wines pair exceptionally with seafood such as oysters, clams, and scallops, sushi, fresh goat cheese, citrus-dressed salads, and light poultry dishes, highlighting and complementing their aromatic vibrancy and zesty acidity.
