The grape variety Bobal

Bobal is a native Spanish grape variety predominantly cultivated in the Utiel-Requena region of Valencia. Renowned for its deep color and robust structure, Bobal offers a distinctive aromatic profile featuring juicy blackberries, fresh cherries, and subtle floral notes of violets and lavender. Earthy nuances and herbal undertones, such as dried Mediterranean herbs, are commonly present, lending further complexity. On the palate, Bobal’s wines are medium to full-bodied with vibrant acidity, moderate tannins, and an impression of freshness often complemented by flavors of dark fruit, licorice, and cocoa.

While Utiel-Requena remains its heartland, Bobal is also grown in Manchuela and scattered across other eastern Spanish wine regions.
