White Grape Variety

Rkatsiteli is a distinguished white grape variety originating from Georgia, with a heritage tracing back over 5,000 years. Its profile features delicate aromas of green apple, quince, and citrus blossom, often complemented by subtle notes of white peach, herbs, and a hint of spice. On the palate, Rkatsiteli wines are marked by crisp acidity, moderate alcohol, and a refreshing minerality, creating a balanced structure that highlights flavors of tart apple, pear, and sometimes hints of honey or almond in more mature examples.

While Georgia remains the heartland of Rkatsiteli cultivation, the variety is also grown in Eastern Europe, particularly in Ukraine, Russia, and Bulgaria, as well as select regions of the United States, notably New York’s Finger Lakes and Virginia. Rkatsiteli is crafted in a range of styles, from dry and aromatic table wines to amber-hued, skin-contact (qvevri) wines, as well as dessert and fortified wines.

Rkatsiteli pairs excellently with fresh seafood, grilled white fish, poultry, and a variety of cheeses due to its bright acidity. Its nuanced flavors also complement Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes, such as tabbouleh, dolma, and lemony roasted chicken.
